Existing Bulk Domestic Users Wanting to Change Supplier
Customers who use LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) for domestic heating and cooking should find it easier to switch suppliers following measures that are to be introduced by the Competition Commission (CC), after concluding its investigation into the domestic bulk LPG market (www.competition-commission.org.uk.). The following comes into effect from mid-late 2008.
Customers can switch suppliers without changing the bulk tank and service pipework. In effect the incoming supplier will buy the existing tank from the
outgoing supplier;
Just four companies - BP, Calor, Flogas and Shell - control more than 90% of the UK market. There are over 200,000 households using LPG all paying substantially varying prices with little room for price negotiating on an individual basis. LPG Solutions is putting a stop to this by asking domestic users to register with us; we will collectively act as a mass mediator to drive prices down.

The following comes into effect from mid-late 2008.
Customers can switch suppliers without changing the bulk tank and service pipework. In effect the incoming supplier will buy the existing tank from the
outgoing supplier;- the outgoing supplier cannot charge the customer any fees for switching to a new supplier;
- the outgoing supplier is obliged to confirm contractual status of switching customer within seven days;
- a time limit for the switching process of a maximum of 42 calendar days from the time the existing supplier receives notice of the customer’s wish to terminate;
- supply agreements or contracts to have an exclusivity period of no more than two years.
- until the transfer is complete the existing supplier shall deal with any requests for emergency resonse.
